The IBEX Customizable Extension (ICE) is a device designed for arm-free reproductive ultrasound exams in cattle, increasing efficiency by allowing rapid pregnancy diagnosis while decreasing operator and animal discomfort.
Over the years we have produced versions to fit each of our IBEX and EVO rectal probes, so regardless of the shape of your probe, there is an extension arm to accommodate it! In addition, we have relentlessly pursued better materials and design elements, and the current revision is the slimmest, most durable yet.
The ICE works particularly well with any of the rectal probes with a curved array (the hybrid CLi6 or the older CLi3 or CLi4 models). The convex face of these probes improves natural contact with the rectal mucosa and provides a wider field of view. Slight upward pressure on the user end of the handle transfers to gentle downward contact at the probe head, which compensates for the lack of manual pressure from a user’s arm.
Grooves along the sides of the probe head allow it to snap securely into the molded handle, and the cable runs snugly through the channel on the underside. The flexible section in the middle can be bent downward to 45 degrees (note: do not bend backward!), which offers a custom feel depending upon the stage of pregnancy, size of the cattle, or height of the user.
To remove the transducer from the ICE handle, press firmly on the head through the top window. Do not use tools to pry it out or pull it out by the cable! Protect the array and strain relief of the probe head as you disengage the cable from its channel.
