The latest IBEX NXT update [2.8.1] delivers access to our new Herd IQ model – fetal aging on the LITE NXT and PRO NXT ultrasound systems (not compatible with older IBEX generations). This AI-powered fetal aging assistive tool estimates bovine gestational age in real time during a standard pregnancy scan. No extra steps, no field connectivity required, and no change to normal scanning technique.
As the scan progresses, the display shows a live age estimate alongside a confidence indicator, so the operator always knows how much certainty stands behind the number. In field testing against veterinarians’ own age assessments, the tool’s estimates tracked closely, with no systematic tendency to read early or late.
- From 30-130 days, the model is typically accurate to within 3 days
- Between 130-150 days, accuracy is generally within 5 days
- Work is continuing on pregnancies beyond 150 days due to limited fetal visibility. Currently accuracy is most often within 10-20 days, but with more inconsistency and should not be depended upon
- As with any machine learning, the more data we provide over time, the better it gets
Furthermore, the program knows its limits. Herd IQ bases the age assessment on the fetus only (not fluid volume, placentomes, or other reproductive structures), and it will withhold a result if the visual information provided is inadequate. A clear “not yet” is more useful than false confidence. The more of the fetus you show it, the more accurate the assessment.
- Red text – low confidence, not to be used
- Yellow text – medium confidence, would like to see more
- Green text – the goal of each scan! Highest level of confidence and accuracy
Imagine accurate aging without stopping to measure. Without the uncertainty of variable on-screen size when scan depth, probe type, or other settings are altered. Imagine what that increase in speed and efficiency can mean for your bottom line.
