It's funny because it’s true.... but don’t be this person! Overuse of gain can result in a washed out image and unnecessary noise. Before reaching for that gain control, consider your contact, transducer choice, and frequency.

All ultrasounds have gain control. It’s often a knob, button, and/or a series of sliders on the console, and it’s one of the most used and adjusted scanning parameters... but do you know what it really does?

Understanding Gain in Ultrasound

All ultrasounds have gain control. It’s often a knob, button, and/or a series of sliders on the console, and it’s one of the most used and adjusted scanning parameters... but do you know what it really does?

Most people think of gain as a brightness adjuster, and while it’s true that turning your gain up will brighten the image, it’s helpful to understand how it actually works. Gain is a uniform amplification of the ultrasonic signal that is returning to the transducer after it travels through the tissue. So rather than brightening the monitor, the image on the screen is whitened by a uniform margin, as though the returning signal is stronger than it is, to make it easier to see.

Medical Imaging (EIMI) has recently been awarded an honor by the Northern Colorado Business Report in its Mercury 100.  This honor is bestowed on companies in Northern Colorado who have shown significant growth in the previous two years. Each flight is determined by annual revenues and are first sorted into 5 flights of 20 companies each based on total amount of annual revenue. EIMI was ranked fourth flight three of companies with 2012 earnings between $2.84M and $5.24M.

Medical Imaging (EIMI) is pleased to announce that Jim Turner has taken over the duties of Director of Marketing.  Jim joins EIMI at a time of growth and the company looks forward to using his vast experience in the social media world as well as his experience with working in the digital space.  “We are very excited about the possibilities Jim brings to our organization”, said Charles Maloy, President of E.I. Jim Turner is a renaissance man in the online world having worked with Fortune 500 companies and small business all over the United States and globally.  Jim developed into a social media marketing business leader, founding One By One Media, a social media marketing firm and Bloggers For Hire, a blogger outsourcing company nearly 10 years ago. Jim has worked in the non-profit world, he is a radio show host, a basketball coach, a color analyst and football broadcaster, and serves on the board of directors of companies needing his guidance.
