With all of the excitement around baby giraffes these days, E.I. Medical Imaging (EIMI) is proud to announce that their EVO® ultrasound system was instrumental in determining the pregnancy of Denver Zoo's Kipele. With a complete team effort and some remote viewing technology, the keepers and veterinary staff from Denver Zoo were able to determine and confirm Kipele's pregnancy and prepare for the subsequent birth of baby Dobby.
Training a giraffe to come close to keepers for diagnostic procedures is no easy task. This took quite some effort and ingenuity on the part of the giraffe keeper staff. A dummy ultrasound unit was fabricated in order to get Kipele familiar with the procedure. Kipele became comfortable with the keepers and their "dummy" ultrasound, but not with the vet staff getting close. So keeper Karen Stern was able to use the EVO® ultrasound system to get an abdominal view of mom, while Amanda Faliano fed Kipele. Under the direction of the veterinary staff via radio, keepers were able to place the transducer on Kipele to see if she was carrying a calf. Utilizing EVOStream® remote viewing technology, doctors Gwen Jankowski and Anneke Moresco were able to view the ultrasound image remotely on an iPhone to confirm the pregnancy. "We were only able to see the umbilical cord, but that was enough to confirm [the pregnancy]. It was awesome," said Dr. Anneke Moresco of Denver Zoo.
This is not the first time E.I. Medical Imaging has partnered with Denver Zoo. "We are so pleased and proud to partner with Denver Zoo and welcome baby Dobby," said Charles Maloy, president of E.I. Medical Imaging. "Denver Zoo is a strong partner of ours and many of the features found in our new EVO system came as the result of input from our work with them. It is so exciting to see this equipment come full circle and be used at Denver Zoo to help their animals."
AVMA supports bill to put more veterinarians in shortage areas The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) applauded two U.S. senators for sponsoring “important legislation that will help ensure all of America’s rural communities get access to the veterinary care they desperately need,” the association said in a release. Sens. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) and Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.) introduced the Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program (VMLRP) Enhancement Act (S. 440) last week, which is a bill that will exempt VMLRP awards from a steep federal income withholding tax, allowing more veterinarians the opportunity to provide ranchers and farmers with vital food safety and animal and public health services. “The AVMA has lobbied hard for the Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program Enhancement Act over the last six years because we understand the far-reaching impacts that it can have on improving the health and welfare of our nation’s livestock and sustaining U.S. agriculture production,” said AVMA President Dr. Ted Cohn. “As the veterinary profession has evolved, we have seen more veterinarians begin practicing in the cities, leaving many farmers and ranchers in rural areas in need of essential services for their livestock. The VMLRP provides the necessary incentive to support veterinarians who are willing to devote their lives to public service by practicing in the nation’s shortage areas, and we thank our leaders in Congress for continuing to support this important initiative that is a win for both public and animal health.”
E.I. Medical Imaging will be watching this legislation and lending its own support through advocacy for the legislation. The bill will make it possible for many veterinarians to travel and set up shop in rural areas where they might not otherwise be able to work. Our products work well with this endeavor as we can be used in the field and away from a brick and mortar animal hospital or on-location veterinary practice. Good luck to those involved in the program and we will keep a close eye on the bill in Congress.

We here at E.I. Medical Imaging have been increasing our marketing to the many people in the beef industry. One of the groups we think represent a very important role in the beef industry is the Angus breeders. We love that the Angus breed "means business". It is said that the Angus breed is the business breed. We wanted to rally around the Angus Association this year in their first Angus Association convention. We have launched our own ad campaign with the association in mind by stating that:
"If Angus Means Business Ibex® Makes Business Better"
We want to wish all the luck in the world to the folks at the American Angus Association and we especially hope to see you all there.
We wanted to share with you a video sent out by the association in their own ribbon cutting ceremony yesterday from near the convention site.
If you see us at the convention come up and say hello and make sure to get signed up for your chance to win the E.I. Medical Imaging 30th Anniversary 30% Off Coupon.
Here at E.I. Medical Imaging, we have been advertising on a show on RFDTV called DocTalk with Dr. Dan Thomson. We know that Dr. Thomson has been a very well respected veterinarian in the industry and we want our message of the Ibex® and its reliability to be seen by his audience. We have been advertising a little over a month now on his show and I wanted to share with you the 30 second spot. We are right at the time of year where many beef cows are being pregnancy checked by veterinarians all over the country. This spot we are running encompasses the idea that veterinarians have a tough job and they need tough tools. They are reliable and so is the Ibex® durable portable ultrasound. Enjoy!
We value your opinions and want to know how we can do a better job of meeting the needs of our veterinarians all over the world. Feel free to contact us and let us know!
We always love to have a little fun here at E.I. Medical Imaging at this time of year. We are fascinated by sharks and it is shark week. Brenda Anderson has submitted a video of a loop of a shark pup and we wanted to share that with you in celebration of shark week. This image was taken by our very own Ibex® Pro. Our Ibex® can withstand the rigors and dangers presented by doing ultrasound scans in the ocean! We hope your shark week is a fun one!
