Before we explore what ultrasonography is, let us first examine the terms ultrasonography and ultrasound. According to the AMA Manual of Style, ultrasonography refers to the imaging procedure itself; whereas, ultrasound refers to the sound waves that penetrate the body during ultrasonography. These terms are not synonymous.
